Let Us Introduce Ourselves
Toby had his first introduction to carving ,years ago when he started watching a hand carving program on television . He and Elaine still carve almost daily.
The Crafts shared their talents with the Seldovian public giving free classes at the school, and forming the first carving club in Seldovia.
Participating for 4 years in the 4th of July celebration by donating carvings.
Toby and Elaine have been Teaching since 1990 and started a carving club in Seldovia Alaska called
Seldovia Alaska Chippers Woodcarvers.
In 2000 they organized an annual week long carving seminar in Mercedes TX called “Rally On The Rio.” Each year they rented a big building , invited 30-35 instructors and filled it up with people carving. People attended from all over. And is still going strong today.

WOOD CHAINSAW CARVING CONTEST
In 2005 Toby & Elaine brought up to the idea of a chainsaw carving contest to The Seldovia Chamber, The Chamber got excited about the event and formed a committee and started preparing for a grand event.
Toby helped organize the Chainsaw carving contest. Toby invited 6 carvers from different parts of Alaska although there was a visitor from Minnesota. With the help of Mike Williamson, and Jim Hopkins and his big truck, they brought the logs to the carving site.
The main competition will have 27 hours to complete a carving .Toby was hoping that the chainsaw competition would encourage visitors to visit Seldovia on Memorial Weekend. It Was a huge Success and they are still having it' It was Named
Toby & Elaine Invitational Chainsaw Carving Contest
Every 4th of July Toby and Elaine would carve and sell carvings in Seldovia Alaska.
In 2006 we carved an Standing Angel With a ship wreck in her skirt as a tribute to all the fisherman lost at sea.2007 We carved 2 otters playing in kelp.
Many of their Carvings have been published in Chip Chats 1993 to 1999.
We have taught at Rally On The Rio TX ,Glen Rose TX, Fredericksburg TX, Kerrville TX, Creede CO, Montrose CO.
